On July 9, 2025, the delegation of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates(UAE), headed by Minister Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, visited the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) to explore scientific cooperation opportunities. Ms. Liu Chunyan, Secretary of the Party Committee, CRAES welcomed the delegation, and Ms. Cui Dandan, Level-II Inspector from the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) attended the meeting. Vice President Chen Sheng presided over the meeting.
Secretary Liu briefed the UAE delegation on the CRAES’s fundamental profile, progress in scientific research and innovation, as well as its international cooperation initiatives. She emphasized that China and UAE are good friends and mutually beneficial partners. In July 2019, the environmental authorities of both countries signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Environmental Protection, under the witness of President Xi Jinping and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. In May 2025, Dr. Sun Jinlong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group and Vice Minister, MEE held in-depth discussion with Minister Dahak about implementing the MoU and further deepen cooperation in environmental protection. Under the guidance of both governments, CRAES is willing to conduct environmental technique exchanges and cooperation with UAE in mutually concerned areas such as atmospheric environment, clean transportation, solid waste management, and soil pollution and remediation, to jointly contribute scientific and technological strength to improve ecological and environmental quality, address climate change, and advance global sustainable development.
Minister Dahak thanked Secretary Liu for her hospitality. She highly commended China’s achievements in ecological civilization and sustainable development, and spoke highly of the innovations by CRAES in effectively supporting government decision-making through scientific research. She noted that both UAE and China attach great importance to addressing climate change and pursuing sustainable development, and there is significant potential for bilateral cooperation. She expressed the willingness to maintain communication with CRAES to advance practical cooperation, jointly addressing environmental challenges.
CRAES’s researchers presented technical advances in air pollution prevention and control, clean transportation and vehicle emission control, and solid waste management. Participants had in-depth discussion about the topics mentioned above.
Before the meeting, Minister Dahak visited the Comprehensive Experimental Center, Environment Protection Key Laboratory of Vehicle Emission Control and Simulation, and the Supersite for Urban Air Comprehensive Observation and Research.
